Wednesday 18th February – Stanmer orchards, Stanmer Park 10am – 3pm
Join Nick Casey to do some much needed winter pruning in our orchards at Stanmer. Unfortunately we are unable to provide any training, so ask that you are either an experienced pruner of fruit trees, or that you have at least done one of our pruning courses. This is a good opportunity to brush up on your skills and help keep our trees healthy and happy at the same time. Please also note that if heavy rain is forecast we will cancel the session (we will contact you the evening before if that is the case).
Please also note: If you can’t make the full session you are welcome anytime – please mention this when you sign up. You will need to call Nick if coming late to find out which orchard he is in, bearing in mind that reception can be poor at Stanmer.
Please register for this session.
Please read for your safety – please be aware that our orchards are wild and wonderful places with many wild and wonderful plants and creatures. Nettles, ankle shredding brambles, rabbit holes and all the usual country hazards need attention too.
Please read this article about the photo toxic plants we may have on site.
Your host
When you register you will receive an email which will give you his contact phone number in case you need to call him on the day
Practical stuff
Please bring:
– Food and drink to sustain you for the session (snacks, flasks, water etc).
– Gardening gloves
– Secateurs and/or pruning saw if you have them (we do have spares)
– Sturdy footwear (no sandals)
– Clothing suitable for nettles, brambles, sun and rain and most importantly, cold – layers are really important.
Water bottles will be able to be refilled on site if necessary. Dress appropriately for weather conditions and messy work. Public toilets are adjacent to the site (please do not urinate in the orchard) and there is a cafe if you want to buy food/drinks.
Please note that for all the activities all children under the age of 18 and people with support needs must be accompanied by a parent/carer who is responsible for their supervision, safety and any medication needed.
Directions
We will meet at the Fruit Factory which is in Stanmer village almost opposite the cafe.
