Apple day a big success
Around 4000 people attended this year's event at Stanmer Park, enjoying apple juice, crumbles, expert advice, orchard tours and much more.
Apple day is now a regular event and we hope to hold it the last Sunday of September each year.
Provisional date for next year: Sunday 26 September 2010.
Apple day is a free event and is seasonal celebration in and around the orchards at Stanmer Park. It is an opportunity to find out more about apples in the orchards at Stanmer.
Activities this year included:
- Tea garden with fresh apple juice, apple puddings, and cakes all day
- Apple identification
- Freshly picked apples from our orchards
- Juicing the apples from the orchard using a traditional press and juice for sale
- Rare Sussex apple trees for sale
- Advice on growing fruit in your own garden, allotment or orchard
- Children’s activities
- Stalls from a variety of local organisations such as Stanmer Organics, Brighton and Hove Food Partnership and others
- Information about our plans to plant all the rare Sussex varieties of apples in our orchards
- Orchard tours
- Cookery demonstrations and lunches made with local produce
