Harvest Brighton & Hove - events and training

Harvest Brighton & Hove is all about growing your own and eating local food. From window boxes to community allotments, there are opportunities for everyone to join in. Harvest has brought together lots of different organisations interested in food who will help you learn to grow your own, make use of surplus produce and eat more tasty local food.

ESSENTIAL GARDENING SKILLS

Dealing with pests & diseases organically
Learn to grow vegetables to feed yourself, and not just the snails and other critters hiding in your allotment or garden.

The winter plot
Ever wish your veg plot was as bountiful over the winter as in the summer? With a little preparation you can have beds full of crops to harvest during the colder months.

Seed saving
All food growers should be seed savers! Learn why it is important to save your own seeds, and all the practical steps needed to go successfully from seed to seed.

Clearing your plot
Learn simple tools and techniques to turn a tough piece of land into a fertile environment for your crops.

Successful composting
Turn your waste into a resource. Learn a variety of composting methods, the benefits of composting and what makes good compost and what doesn’t.

TASTER SESSIONS

Growing in small spaces
A short evening course on how to grow a variety of easy and productive crops in containers. Each participant will take home their own freshly sown salad box.

Wild fermenting
A fascinating workshop to introduce some of the many different and delicious ways to ferment foods (Sauerkraut, kimchi, sour pickles, sourdoughs, dairy ferments and fermented drinks and vinegars).

The winter salad box
This short course will focus on growing the best selection of winter salad crops in a small space. Each participant will take home their own freshly sown salad box.
