Fruit

We are involved in a number of initiatives to encourage growing, harvesting and eating of local fruit.

School and community orchards

We are planting mini school and community orchards across Sussex with our partner Action in rural Sussex. Please contact us for more details.

Sussex apples

We are working, again with our partner Action in rural Sussex, to reintroduce delicious and nearly extinct Sussex apple varieties. Small numbers of these are available for sale.

Scrumping project

We are harvesting unused fruit in Brighton & Hove. Please contact us if you know of fruit trees where the fruit isn't used or you would like to help with the project (volunteers get to eat lots of fruit).

The Scrumping project is part of Harvest Brighton & Hove. Harvest is a partnership project that aims to help more people in Brighton & Hove to grow their own and eat local food, by helping people gain skills and finding more land for food growing.

Orchards and plot

With Stanmer Orchard Group we have renovated two old orchards at Stanmer. They provide an abundance of apples and good habitat for wildlife and are open for school and group visits.

We also have a plot of land which includes a nursery for propagating Sussex apple trees. It is not open to the public but can be visited at Stanmer Organics open days.

Directions to our meeting point at Stanmer Park.

Volunteers

Contact us if you would like to volunteer to help with these projects.
