Diploma in applied permaculture design

The Diploma in Applied Permaculture Design involves a minimum two-year long period of self-managed study, applying what you know about Permaculture Design to your life and work, and gradually getting to use the Design process as an automatic skillset of applied understandings. It is awarded by the Permaculture Association (Britain) and you can read all about it on their website.
You have to have gained the Permaculture Association (Britain) Certificate awarded for completing the 72 hour Permaculture Design course, run by one or more of the teachers on the Permaculture Association (Britain)'s registered teachers list, which is also on the Permaculture Association (Britain) website. Brighton Permaculture Trust's version of the 72 hour course is called Building Sustainable Communities. You apply to do the Diploma through the Permaculture Association (Britain), and they will allocate you to a Tutor, usually in your geographical area.
Brighton Permaculture Trust’s local diploma support
If you have done the Brighton Permaculture Trust's version of the 72 hour course, which is called Building Sustainable Communities, you will have been given information about how the Diploma works in this area. Limited resources mean that the Brighton Permaculture Trust may not be able to support you as a Diploma student, as we already have a large group of people doing the Diploma under our auspices. We prefer people to have done Brighton Permaculture Trust's Building Sustainable Communities, first, and also to have also gained the 12 OCN credits at QCA Level Three that we offer as part of the course. This allows us to know that people have worked in Action Learning Guilds already, and have understood the commitment that this takes.
Brighton Permaculture Trust holds induction sessions twice a year if possible, and will only take on a new Diploma student if that person can commit to supporting Brighton Permaculture Trust in return. This can be done by volunteering for various activities within Brighton Permaculture Trust, including supporting tutors on the Building Sustainable Communities course and other courses, getting involved in some of the events we run, joining in workdays on our plot and orchards at Stanmer Park, amongst other ideas. All these activities can help you with Diploma Projects as they will give you space to practise synergy, community building, etc. - the complementary criteria for the Diploma - as well as put design into action and show your understanding of the theory.
